Below is a c/p from GAOTD member. Proceed at your own risk.

Few things I would like to share :

Here’s a pretty good and lenghty article on how to harden your browser of choice against any type of privacy/intrusion concerns:
http://www.techsupportalert.com/content ... ncerns.htm

Malwarebytes Antimalware Free should do a pretty good job along with your regular antivirus + Firewall
https://www.malwarebytes.org/

Third Opinion scanners like Hitman or HerdProtect give you the power of top security product’s quality under one hood:
http://www.herdprotect.com/ 68 scanning engines in the cloud
http://www.surfright.nl/en also check for the anti-botnet link in this site
http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/hostsman.html take control of your HOSTS file and update the blacklisted sites automatically.
http://www.zemana.com/Anti-Malware it’s available somewhere free for now Portable
http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/eek/ Emsisoft stick for infected systems

Besides these a few browser plugins can really help:

It has been a while since I had my browser hijacked.

You take the red pill - you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes.

Yes...same here.

Ever since I changed from IE to Chrome (knock on Wood) all has been working quite well.

Now that that Friday the 13th is over, even better :)

In my opinion ESET Online Scanner is the best malware checker for PC (I use it on Windows). Highly recommend it!

Virtualbox by oracle.. set up a test machine (on your normal machine) then you can install anything you want knowing you can _REALLY_ restore your machine back to exactly the way it was any time you want. If you are running a "normal" operating system (Win 7/8/10) then you install to your tester enviroment, run a bunch of trojan, malware, etc scanners, and if you are still happy then install again on your "real" machine. I run server 2012 as the base machine and have several choices when I power up depending on what I want to do. I would suggest AT LEAST a 500 gig data drive for storage if you are going to maintain several environments.
