Rapidshare announced several important news:

1. In the future, the download volumes included in a Premium Account is going to be reduced from 10 Gigabyte a day to 80 Gigabyte a month, at continuous exact daily pro rata billing.
2. The sum of accumulated download-traffic is going to be reduced from 50 Gigabyte to 10 Gigabyte.
3. Personal web storage space is going to continue to be set to 500 Gigabyte.
4. Existing Accounts are not affected, aside that due to the change of 10 Gigabyte maximum accumulated traffic, no download volume can be transferred from one day to another.
5. For all existing Premium Accounts the old conditions are in place (10 Gigabyte download per day), however, you can already make use and profit of the new TrafficShare model.
6. A further change is going to effect a small number of users that neither upload their files through a Premium- or Collector’s Account.
Files that are stored completely anonymous can now only be downloaded 10 times. Thereafter an error message will appear.
7. With immediate effect the FileMigrator has been made available, enabling you to move any files between Accounts (Links Transfer to Premium Account | Transfer to Collector Account below file link in Premium/Collector Zones), namely with the following combinations: From Collector's to Collector's, from Collector's to Premium, from Premium to Collector's, from Premium to Premium. LinkLists can be transferred from Premium- to Premium Account. More information is available in the Collector's-Zone, and respectively in the Premium Zone.

Existing Accounts are not affected, aside that due to the change of 10 Gigabyte maximum accumulated traffic, no download volume can be transferred from one day to another. As it is technically not possible to work with various procedures, we have compensated all existing Premium users 50 Gigabyte of traffic volume to their TrafficShare quota. This balance does not expire, as long as you own the Premium Account. You can flexibly apply this quota for your own downloads, should your download balance have run out. The system then automatically allocated traffic in 1 Gigabyte packages from the TrafficShare quota.

In the course of the improvements, we have immensely reduced the prices for the TrafficShare packages. By this means, users that require additional download volume, can flexibly make additional purchases at any time, without increasing the cost for less frequent users. The advantage for frequent users is that by any desired increase in TrafficShare balance, maximum download volume is no longer dictated. The advantage for less regular users is that the prices are not going to be increased. By this we also hope to increase the interest in our TrafficShare model. For all existing Premium Accounts the old conditions are in place (10 Gigabyte download per day), however, you can already make use and profit of the new TrafficShare model.

It is not the price model only that we have shaped up for the future. A further change is going to effect a small number of users that neither upload their files through a Premium- or Collector’s Account. Files that are stored completely anonymous can now only be downloaded 10 times. Thereafter an error message will appear. However, the file can be moved into a Collector’s- or Premium Account afterwards so that downloading is possible again.

Lastly we have a thorough positive announcement: With immediate effect the FileMigrator has been made available, enabling you to move any files between Accounts, namely with the following combinations: From Collector's to Collector's, from Collector's to Premium, from Premium to Collector's, from Premium to Premium. I reckon we should start looking at MegaUpload, I have been using it for a while now and the speed is fast and I only pay once for a life time Lifetime platinum membership $ 199.99, RS I pay every 12 Months.

II. File Upload and Storage Questions



To upload a file just follow these simple steps:


Select a file to send by clicking the "Browse" button. You can then select photos, audio, video, documents or anything else you want to send. The maximum file size is 1024 MB.
You may choose who you want to send a file to. If you just want to get the link to your file stored on our server, leave the optional fields blank.
Click the "Send" button to start uploading the file. You will see the progress of the file transfer. Please don't close your browser window while uploading or it will cancel the upload.
If you entered an optional recipient e-mail address, they will be sent the link of the file. They can then simply click the link to your file to download it.
If you entered your e-mail address (optional), you will be sent the link and delete link to your file stored on our server. You can share it for example on forums, websites, messengers, etc.



Premium features:


If you would like to mail your file to more than one recipient (up to 1000!), you may enter multiple e-mail addresses seperated by comma or semicolon.
You may choose if you want to protect your file with a password. Only you and the recipient will receive the password by e-mail. Noone can access your file without the password.
Instead of uploading a file from your local harddrive, you may enter a valid HTTP or FTP link. We will then fetch the file to Megaupload and provide you with a download link.



How often can my files be downloaded from Megaupload?

How long does Megaupload store my files?

Your files will be stored forever as long as you are a premium member. If you are a registered user without premium status, your files will be stored until at least 90 days after their last download (you can manually restart that expiration period at any time in the file manager). A file that was uploaded anonymously (that is not owned by any Megaupload user) will be deleted no sooner than 21 days after the last time it was downloaded.
Should I rely on Megaupload as the only place to store my vital files?

No! It is good practice to always keep more than one backup of any file you cannot afford to lose. Although we are going to great lengths to ensure the long-term integrity and availability of your data, there is always a (very slim) chance of a loss - e.g. because of natural disasters affecting our data centers or someone reporting an acceptable use policy violation affecting your files or files appearing in their context. We take no responsibility for the long-term availability of your files!
What is the maximum file size I can upload?

If you'd like your file to be downloadable by everyone, make sure not to exceed the limit of 1024 MB. Larger files can only be downloaded by premium users.
Which files are allowed to be uploaded?

All files that do not violate our terms of service or the laws of concerned countries. This means that files violating copyrights, or containing pornography, are forbidden and will be removed as soon as we notice. If you see such files on Megaupload, we would be glad if you notified us: Simply file an abuse report on our front page.
Can I upload more than one file at a time?

Sure! You can either open multiple upload windows or use the Multi file uploader (available in the icon box). For improved upload performance and comfort, we recommend using our toolbar or the Mega Manager instead of uploading from your web browser.
Where do I see the link of my uploaded file?

You will see it in the upper right corner once your upload is completed. If you entered your e-mail address before uploading, you will also receive an e-mail with both the download and its accompanying delete link. If you upload files frequently, you may wish to sign up for your personal online storage account. It's free, and it allows you to comfortably manage your file portfolio in our innovative file manager.
Can I include links to uploaded images directly in HTML files?

Unortunately not. Like most major free services on the Internet, we have to ensure that our traffic can be paid for. If the images were embedded directly, we would have no way of showing any advertising.
Can I delete my uploaded files?

Sure you can! If you enter your e-mail address when uploading a file, we will automatically e-mail you two links: a link to download the file, and your private delete link. If you have a free online storage account, you will be able to view and delete your files from within your personal file manager. If you uploaded a file without supplying your e-mail address and without being logged on, you cannot delete it.
I entered my e-mail address with my upload. Will I receive spam?

No, we will never disclose your e-mail address to any third parties.
Why is my upload slow?

Depending on your connectivity to our server network, your upload speed may be limited and slower than what you expect. You may wish to install our Internet Explorer toolbar or our groundbreaking Mega Manager client software for improved upload speed and extended features such as the ability to resume interrupted uploads.



III. File Download Questions


Which download accelerators can I use?

While you can use any of the major download accelerators, we recommend that you use Mega Manager instead. It is a generic download accelerator, but contains additional functionality to take advantage of Megaupload's special features. This is especially true if you own a Megaupload Premium account.
I received a Megaupload link and clicked on it, but I don't see a download link. Help!

If you don't have a premium account and the link you received is not a premium link, you first have to enter a three-letter code to identify yourself as a human being (we had to introduce this feature to combat robots that would otherwise use up too much of our bandwidth). If you cannot see the code, enable the loading of graphics and disable any ad blockers in your browser.

After you entered the code successfully, you will see a timer counting down to 0 (45 seconds for unregistered users, 25 seconds for registered free users). If you have Javascript disabled, you will see a message asking you to enable it instead.

If the file you are trying to download is larger than 1024 MB, you can only download it with a premium account. In this case, you will see a "Download with Premium!" message.
I cannot download files at all! What is wrong?

If you do not have a Megaupload Premium account, certain restrictions may prevent you from downloading: We do not allow more than one concurrent download per IP address and also limit the amount of data you can download from our servers within a certain timespan. If you share your IP address with other Megaupload users (e.g. because your ISP uses proxies or NAT), you may be adversely affected by their activities.
I am not downloading/have not downloaded anything, but still get "Download limit exceeded". Why?

It is possible that someone else is already downloading from your IP or has exceeded your newly assigned IP's download quota in a previous session.

There are three ways to work around this issue:
1. You can try a different port. Some ISPs only enforce proxy use only for connections to port 80. We offer two alternate ports (800 and 1723) that you may try. This will never work if your ISP assigns private (10.*, 172.16-31.*, 192.168.*) IP addresses or uses NAT.
2. You can ask your ISP to assign you a public IP address or switch to a different ISP.
3. You can buy a premium account, which relieves you of all limitations and allows for unlimited parallel and batch downloads.

I have tried to change the port, but now I can't download at all.

Click here to reset your port setting.
I cannot open a downloaded file: I get asked for a password, a program to open the file with, or a missing "codec". Help!

Please ask the person you received the file link from for details about the file format, required codecs or passwords. We have no way of finding them out for you.
Can I browse your huge file archive?

No. Not everyone wants his files to be seen or downloaded by anyone. In order to protect privacy and copyrights, it is impossible to download files if you do not know the links. However, if you purchase a Megaupload Premium Account we will give you access to our top100 public files.
Why is my download slow?

Depending on packet roundtrip time and packet loss to our servers, your downloads may be slow. This may also depend on the time of day, so trying again at a different time may solve your problem. Also, using Mega Manager with a Megaupload Premium account will dramatically improve your downloading speed, usually maxing out your Internet connection's bandwidth.
Megaupload is not accessible from my network or country, is it banned or blacklisted?!

The growing popularity of our service forced us to limit the number of concurrent connections from a few countries during peak hours. If you are affected by this policy, signing up for a Megaupload Premium account will solve that problem for you.

If your ISP blocks access to Megaupload, please send us an e-mail, and we will try to find a solution for you or work things out with your network provider.

In many cases, using web proxies can solve access problems as well.



IV. Megaupload Rewards


I have heard that I can earn premium status and cash from people downloading my files. Is that true?

Yes, it is! Every qualifying download of one of your files will earn you a reward point. When you have reached a certain number of points, you can redeem them for premium status or even cash. If you have popular content that you have the rights to distribute, this program is for you. If you are trying to earn money by posting files that infringe on the rights of others, forget about it. You will be disqualified.
I have earned a lot of points, what can I do with them?

You can either wait until you have earned even more points, or redeem some for one of our awards:
10000 reward points: One month premium membership
50000 reward points: 6 months premium membership
100000 reward points: One year premium + $100 USD
500000 reward points: Lifetime platinum + $500 USD
1000000 reward points: $1500 USD
5000000 reward points: $10000 USD

What is a qualifying download? How do you count the downloads I earned?

Only one download per IP per day per file will be counted. Downloads from certain countries do not count (click here to see a list of qualifying countries). We reserve the right to exclude downloads from certain IP addresses from counting towards your rewards earnings if we detect fraudulent activitiy.

Why doesn't the system recognize my new Megaupload Premium account?

VI. Online storage


I would like to store a remote file portfolio on your servers, e.g. for off-site backup purposes. What can you offer?

As a free user, you can store up to 50 GB of data in your account. The files will expire after 90 days of inactivity, but you can manually restart that period at any time. If you need more space and don't want to worry about file expiration, you can sign up for a Megaupload Premium account. Files in a such an account will never expire as long as the premium status is active, and you can store up to 1 TB.

I bought a MU account recently and I'm not too happy with it so far.

I've uploaded quite a bit of content on it, but it takes about 1-7 days before they become available for download. Until then, they just appear with "this file is temporarily unavailable"

As for the "great" rewards program, I've had over 300 downloads so far, and received only 11 rewards points.

In RS I've got loads of premium points and it just feels like a more stable and reliable site. I bought the MU account because of the latest **** that RS pulled, but I'm not sure that MU is a good alternative....

This is a well known phishing attempt. Ignore it and under no circumstances should you reply and give them ANY of your details.

A number of forums actually have this topic as a global sticky to warn users from this.

Do you think "lifetime" memberships are a wise investment these days? I'd personnaly doubt MU is going to exist a year (or especially two years) from now.

That seems to be the problem these days, do you take a chance and pay for a years membership or do you pay every 3 months like i've been doing ? up until yesterday everything was fine with R/S but their rules have changed and i've had my account terminted because i've apparently downloaded something illegal, absolute joke. :confused:

If they start terminating peoples accounts willy nilly for so downlaoding so called illegal files i can't see them lasting too much longer.

I think you're right. But they got busted by a European court a few weeks ago and ordered to institute copyright protection measures, so this kind of thing hasn't been totally unexpected.

Okay so the question is, do we share our stuff or do we stop?? I have a RS premium but if I am going to get hassled because I shared a movie here what is the point??
I have not really been impressed with MU from what I have seen so far.
Are any of you still sharing VIA RS?? Since this was an old post I just wanted to know.
